According to narrations, it is recommended to bathe oneself at the twenty-seventh night of Ramadan. It has been also narrated that Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zayn al-’Abidin (a.s.) used to repeat the following supplicatory prayer throughout this night:
اَللّٰهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِيْ التَّجَافِيْ عَنْ دَارِ الْغُرُوْرِ،
O Allah, (please) present me alienation from the abode of delusion,
وَالْاِنَابَةَ اِلٰى دَارِ الْخُلُوْدِ
turning to the abode of eternity,
وَالْاِسْتِعْدَادَ لِلْمَوْتِ قَبْلَ حُلُوْلِ الْفَوْتِ۔
and readiness for death before it is too late.
DUA FOR THE 27TH NIGHT OF RAMADHAN
يَا مَآدَّ الظِّلِّ
O Spreader of the shade
وَلَوْ شِئْتَ لَجَعَلْتَهُ سَاكِنًا،
and if You willed, You could make it still,
وَجَعَلْتَ الشَّمْسَ عَلَيْهِ دَلِيْلًا
then You have made the sun its pilot,
ثُمَّ قَبَضْتَهُ اِلَيْكَ قَبْضًا يَسِيْرًا،
then You withdraw it to Us, a gradual withdrawal!
يَا ذَالْجُوْدِ وَالطَّوْلِ
O Lord of magnanimity, conferral,
وَالْكِبْرِيَاۤءِ وَالْاٰلَاۤءِ،
greatness, and bounties!
لَا اِلـٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ
There is no god save You!
عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ
You are the Knower of the hidden and the witnessed,
الرَّحْمٰنُ الرَّحِيْمُ،
the All-beneficent, the All-merciful!
لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اَنْتَ
There is no god save You.
يَا قُدُّوْسُ يَا سَلَامُ
O All-holy! O (Source of) Peace!
يَا مُؤْمِنُ يَامُهَيْمِنُ
O Grantor of security! O Dominant!
يَا عَزِيْزُ يَاجَبَّارُ
O Mighty! O Omnipotent!
يَا مُتَكَبِّرُ يَا اَللهُ
O All-great! O Allah!
يَا خَالِقُ يَا بَارِئُ يَا مُصَوِّرُ،
O Creator! O Maker! O Fashioner!
يَا اَللهُ يَا اَللهُ يَا اَللهُ،
O Allah! O Allah! O Allah!
لَكَ الْاَسْمَاۤءُ الْحُسْنٰى،
To You are the Most Excellent Names,
وَالْاَمْثَالُ الْعُلْيَا،
the most elevated examples,
وَالْكِبْرِيَاۤءُ وَالْاٰلَاۤءُ،
greatness, and bounties.
اَسْاَلُكَ اَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ،
I beseech You to bless Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَاَنْ تَجْعَلَ اسْمِيْ فِي هٰذِهِ اللَّيْلَةِ فِي السُّعَدَاۤءِ،
include my name with the list of the happiest ones,
وَرُوْحِيْ مَعَ الشُّهَدَاۤءِ،
add my soul to the martyrs,
وَاِحْسَانِيْ فِيْ عِلِّيِّيْنَ،
record my good deeds in the most exalted rank,
وَاِسَاۤءَتِيْ مَغْفُوْرَةً،
decide my offense to be forgiven,
وَاَنْ تَهَبَ لِيْ يَقِيْنًا تُبَاشِرُ بِهِ قَلْبِيْ،
grant me certitude that fills in my heart
وَاِيْمَانًا يُذْهِبُ الشَّكَّ عَنِّيْ،
and faith that removes doubt from me,
وَتُرْضِيَنِيْ بِمَا قَسَمْتَ لِيْ،
make me feel satisfied with that which You decide for me,
وَاٰتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً
grant us reward in this world
وَفِي الْاٰخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً
and reward in the Hereafter,
وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ الْحَرِيْقِ،
save us from the torment of the burning Fire,
وَارْزُقْنِيْ فِيْهَا ذِكْرَكَ وَشُكْرَكَ وَالرَّغْبَةَ اِلَيْكَ
and confer upon us at this night Your mentioning, thanking You, desiring for You,
وَالْاِنَابَةَ وَالتَّوْبَةَ وَالتَّوْفِيْقَ لِمَا وَفَّقْتَ لَهُ مُحَمَّدًا وَاٰلَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمُ السَّلَامُ۔
turning to You, and success to that towhich You led Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad, peace be upon him and them.
