DUA FOR THE DECEASED
When the grave is leveled, any one may put his hand on it, open the fingers, press them on the grave, and pray for the dead person, saying:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اٰنِسْ وَحْشَتَهُ
O Allah, (please) entertain his lonesomeness,
وَارْحَمْ غُرْبَتَهُ
have mercy upon his seclusion,
وَاَسْكِنْ رَوْعَتَهُ
calm down his fear,
وَصِلْ وَحْدَتَهُ
maintain (communion) his loneliness,
وَاَسْكِنْ اِلَيْهِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ
put with him part of Your mercy
رَحْمَةً يَسْتَغْنِىْ بِهَا عَنْ رَحْمَةِ مَنْ سِوَاكَ
due to which he will dispense with the mercy of any one other than You,
وَ احْشُرْهُ مَعَ مَنْ كَانَ يَتَوَلَّاهُ۔
and resurrect him with those to whom he has been loyal.
When people leave, the nearest relative of the dead person should remain there, praying Almighty Allah’s mercy on the dead person. If nothing prevents from so, this person should call at the dead loudly and say these words:
يَا۔۔۔بْنِ۔۔۔
O [so-and-so] the son of {so-and-so]
اَلله رَبُّكَ‏
Allah is your lord,
وَ مُحَمَّدٌ نَبِيُّكَ
Muhammad is your prophet,
وَ الْقُرْاٰنُ كِتَابُكَ
the Qur'an is your book,
وَ الْكَعْبَةُ قِبْلَتُكَ
the Ka'bah is your direction,
وَ عَلِىٌّ اِمَامُكَ
'Ali is your Imam,
وَ الْحَسَنُ وَ الْحُسَيْنُ‏
and al-Hasan, al-Husayn,
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنَِ
'Ali the son of al-Husayn,
وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
وَ جَعْفَرَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
Ja'far the son of Muhammad,
وَ مُوْسَىٰ بْنَ جَعْفَرٍ
Musa the son of Ja'far,
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ مُوْسىٰ
'Ali the son of Musa,
وَ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ
Muhammad the son of 'Ali,
وَ عَلِىَّ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ
'Ali the son of Muhammad,
وَالْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِىٍّ
al-Hasan the son of 'Ali,
وَالقَاۤئِمَ الْحُجَّةَ الْمَهْدِىَّ
and the Rising Argument-person,
عَلَيْهم السَّلَامُ
peace be upon them all
اَئمَّتُكَ اَئِمَّةُ الْهُدَى الْاَبْرَارُ۔
are your Imams. They are the pious leaders to true guidance.
