The Supplication of the Attributes.
This supplication is also called Dua al-Shubur. It is advisable to say this supplication at the last hour of Fridays. It is well-known that Dua al-Simat is one of the famous supplications, which was regularly said by the past scholars. This supplication is recorded in Shaykh al-Tusi’s book of Misbah al-Mutahajjid, Sayyid Ibn Tawus’s book of Jamal al-Usbu’, and al-Kaf’ami’s books through an authentic series of narrators on the authority of Muhammad ibn ‘Uthman al-’Umari, one of the Four Envoys of Imam al-Mahdi, peace be upon him. The supplication has been also reported from Imam Muhammad al-Baqir and Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq, peace be upon them. With commentary, al-Majlisi has also narrated the supplication in his famous book of Bihar al-Anwar. The following form is quoted from Shaykh al-Tusi’sMisbah al-Mutahajjid:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّي اَسْاَلُكَ بِاسْمِكَ العَظِيْمِ الْاَعْظَمِ
O Allah, I beseech You by Your Name, the most great, most majestic,
الْاَعَزِّ الْاَجَلِّ الْاَكْرَمِ
most magnificent, and most noble;
الَّذِيْ اِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهِ عَلىٰ مَغَالِقِ اَبْوَابِ السَّماۤءِ لِلْفَتْحِ بِالرَّحْمَةِ انْفَتَحَتْ،
if You are besought thereby to open the closed doors of the sky, they will be opened with Your mercy,
وَ اِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهِ عَلىٰ مَضَاۤئِقِ اَبْوَابِ الْاَرْضِ لِلْفَرَجِ انْفَرَجَتْ
if You are besought thereby to remove the narrow doors of the heavens for relief, they will be opened wide,
وَاِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهِ عَلىٰ العُسْرِ لِلْيُسْرِ تَيَسَّرَتْ
if You are besought thereby to make easy the difficulty, it will be easy,
وَاِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهِ عَلىٰ الْاَمْوَاتِ لِلنُّشُوْرِ انْتَشَرَتْ
if You are besought thereby to restore the dead to life, they will rise from their graves,
وَاِذَا دُعِيْتَ بِهِ عَلىٰ كَشْفِ الْبَأْساۤءِ وَالضَّرَّاۤءِ انْكَشَفَتْ
if You are besought thereby to remove misery and adversity, they will be removed.
وَبِجَلَالِ وَجْهِكَ الْكَرِيْمِ
I also beseech You in the name of the Majesty of Your Noble Face;
اَكْرَمِ الْوُجُوْهِ وَاَعَزِّ الْوُجُوْهِ
the Noblest and most Honored of all faces
الَّذِيْ عَنَتْ لَهُ الْوُجُوْهُ
before Whom all faces bow down in submission,
وَخَضَعَتْ لَهُ الرِّقَابُ،
all necks bend down in reverence,
وَخَشَعَتْ لَهُ الْاَصْوَاتُ
all sounds yield,
وَ وَجِلَتْ لَهُ الْقُلُوْبُ مِنْ مَخَافَتِكَ،
and all hearts tremble out of fear of You.
وَبِقُوَّتِكَ الَّتِيْ بِہَا
I also beseech You by Your Might
تُمْسِكُ السَّمَاۤءَ اَنْ تَقَعَ عَلىٰ الْاَرْضِ اِلَّا بِاِذْنِكَ،
by which You prevent the sky from falling on the earthexcept with Your permission,
وَتُمْسِكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ اَنْ تَزُوْلَا،
and control the heavens and the earth so closely that they cannot move away from their positions,
وَبِمَشِيَّتِكَ الَّتِيْ دَانَ لَهَا الْعَالَمُوْنَ،
by Your Will, which the whole world obeys,
وَبِكَلِمَتِكَ الَّتِيْ خَلَقْتَ بِهَا السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضَ
by Your Word by which You have created the heavens and the earth,
وَبِحِكْمَتِكَ الَّتِيْ صَنَعْتَ بِهَا الْعَجَاۤئِبَ،
by Your Wisdom with which You have created the wonderful things,
وَخَلَقْتَ بِهَا الظُّلْمَةَ وَجَعَلْتَهَا لَيْلًا
created darkness, made it night,
وَجَعَلْتَ اللَّيْلَ سَكَنًا،
made night the time of quiet and rest,
وَخَلَقْتَ بِهَا النُّورَ وَجَعَلْتَهٗ نَهَارًا،
created light, made it daylight,
وَجَعَلْتَ النَّهَارَ نُشُوْرًا مُبْصِرًا،
made day the time of movement and observation,
وَخَلَقْتَ بِهَا الشَّمْسَ وَجَعَلْتَ الشَّمْسَ ضِيَاۤءً،
created the sun, made the sun light,
وَخَلَقْتَ بِهَا الْقَمَرَ وَجَعَلْتَ الْقَمَرَ نُورًا،
created the moon, made the moon of light,
وَخَلَقْتَ بِهَا الْكَوَاكِبَ
created heavenly bodies,
وَجَعَلْتَهَا نُجُوْمًا وَبُرُوْجًا وَمَصَابِيْحَ وَزِيْنَةً وَ رُجُوْمًا،
made them fixed stars, planets, lamps for guidance at night, means of decoration, and missiles,
وَجَعَلْتَ لَهَا مَشَارِقَ وَمَغَارِبَ،
created for them east and west,
وَجَعَلْتَ لَهَا مَطَالِعَ وَمَجَارِيْ،
created for them places of ascendancy and orbits,
وَجَعَلْتَ لَهَا فَلْكًا وَمَسَابِحَ،
created for them a firmament and spheres,
وَقَدَّرْتَهَا فِي السَّمَاۤءِ مَنَازِلَ فَاَحْسَنْتَ تَقْدِيْرَهَا،
fixed for them stages in the heaven withexcellent fixing,
وَصَوَّرْتَهَا فَاَحْسَنْتَ تَصْوِيْرَهَا
shaped the stars withexcellent shaping,
وَاَحْصَيْتَهَا بِاَسْمَاۤئِكَ اِحْصَاۤءً
measured them through Your Names withexact measurement,
وَ دَبَّرْتَهَا بِحِكْمَتِكَ تَدْبِيْرًا وَاَحْسَنْتَ تَدْبِيْرَهَا،
designed through Your wisdom a system for them withexcellent design,
وَسَخَّرْتَهَا بِسُلْطَانِ اللَّيْلِ وَسُلْطَانِ النَّهَارِ
controlled the heavenly bodies through the influence of night and the influence of day,
وَالسَّاعَاتِ وَعَدَدِ السِّنِيْنَ وَالْحِسَابَ
and through hours, making them a means for the reckoning of years and counting,
وَجَعَلْتَ رُؤْيَتَهَا لِجَمِيْعِ النَّاسِ مَرْئً وَاحِدًا،
and made all people see them alike.
وَاَسْاَلُكَ اللّٰهُمَّ بِمَجْدِكَ
I beseech You,O Allah, in the name of Your glory
الَّذِيْ كَلَّمْتَ بِهِ عَبْدَكَ وَرَسُوْلَكَ مُوْسىٰ بْنَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَيْهِ اَلسَّلَامُ فِى الْمُقَدَّسِيْنَ
with which You addressed Your servant and Messenger, Moses the son of 'Imran ('a) while he was in the company of angels;
فَوْقَ اِحْسَاسِ الْكَرُوْبِيْنَ
an address even the favorite cherubim could not ever hear,
فَوْقَ غَمَاۤئِمِ النُّوْرِ
above the clouds of light,
فَوْقَ تَابُوْتِ الشَّهَادَةِ
above the box of evidence,
فِيْ عَمُوْدِ النَّارِ وَ فِيْ طُوْرِ سَيْنَاۤءَ
within the pillar of fire on Mount Sinai
وَ فِيْ جَبَلِ حُوْرِيْثَ
and on Mount Hurith
فِيْ الْوَادِ الْمُقَدَّسِ
in the Holy Vale
فِيْ الْبُقْعَةِ الْمُبَارَكَةِ
in the sacred tract of land
مِنْ جَانِبِ الطُّوْرِ الْاَيْمَنِ مِنَ الشَّجَرَةِ
to the right of Taurus Mountain through a tree,
وَ فِيْ اَرْضِ مِصْرَ بِتِسْعِ اٰيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ
[and again addressed him] on the land of Egypt, after showing nine clear signs,
وَ يَوْمَ فَرَقْتَ لِبَنِىْ اِسْرَاۤئِيْلَ الْبَحْرَ
and on the day You split the sea for the children of Israel,
وَ فِيْ الْمُنْبَجِسَاتِ الَّتِىْ صَنَعْتَ بِهَا الْعَجَاۤئِبَ فِيْ بَحْرِ سُوْفِ
and caused springs to flow from a stone, thereby displaying wonders of Your might in a deep sea,
وَ عَقَدْتَ مَاۤءَ الْبَحْرِ فِيْ قَلْبِ الْغَمْرِ كَالْحِجَارَةِ
on the day when You solidified the water of the sea in the midst of the storm,
وَ جَاوَزْتَ بِبَنِىْ اِسْرَاۤئِيْلَ الْبَحْرَ
caused the children of Israel to pass by the sea,
وَ تَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُكَ الْحُسْنىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ بِمَا صَبَرُوْا
and fulfilled Your excellent promises made to them because of their calm endurance,
وَ اَوْرَثْتَهُمْ مَشَارِقَ الْاَرْضِ وَ مَغَارِبِهَا الَّتِىْ بَارَكْتَ فِيْهَا لِلْعَالَمِيْنَ
made them the master of the East and the West in the earth wherein there are blessings for all the worlds,
وَ اَغْرَقْتَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَ جُنُوْدَهُ وَ مَرَاكِبَهُ فِيْ الْيَمِّ
drowned Pharaoh, his armies, and boats in the water.
وَ بِاسْمِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ الْاَعْظَمِ
[I beseech You] by Your Name, the great, the Most Great,
الْاَعَزِّ الْاَجَلِّ الْاَكْرَمِ
the Most Honorable, Most Majestic, and Most Noble,
وَ بِمَجْدِكَ الَّذِىْ تَجَلَّيْتَ بِهِ لِمُوْسىٰ كَلِيْمِكَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِيْ طُوْرِ سَيْنَاۤءِ
and by Your Glory with which You revealed Yourself as light to Moses, Your addressee, peace be on him, on Mount Sinai,
وَ لِاِبْرَاهِيْمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ خَلِيْلِكَ مِنْ قَبْلُ فِىْ مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ
and earlier radiated the light for Abraham, Your sincere friend peace be on him, in the Mosque of al-Khif,
وَ لِاِسْحَاقَ صَفِيِّكَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِىْ بِئْرِ شِيَعِ
and for Isaac, Your chosen Prophet, peace be on him, in Shi' Well,
وَ لِيَعْقُوْبَ نَبِيِّكَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ فِىْ بَيْتِ اِيْلٍ
and for Your Prophet Jacob, peace be on him, in Bayt II,
وَ اَوْفَيْتَ لِاِبْرَاهِيْمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ بِمِيْثَاقِكَ
and You fulfilled Your promise to Abraham, peace be on him,
وَ لِاِسْحَاقَ بِحَلْفِكَ
Your oath in favor of Isaac,
وَ لِيَعْقُوْبَ بِشَهَادَتِكَ
Your witnessing favoring Jacob,
وَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ بِوَعْدِكَ
the fulfillments of Your promise to the faithful believers,
وَ لِلدَّاعِيْنَ بِاَسْمَاۤئِكَ فَاَجَبْتَ
and Your Names with which You accepted the prayers of supplicants,
وَ بِمَجْدِكَ الَّذِىْ ظَهَرَ لِمُوْسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلىٰ قُبَّةِ الرُّمَّانِ
and by Your Glory, which appeared to Moses, the son of 'Imran, in al-Rumman Dome,
وَ بِاٰيَاتِكَ الَّتِى وَقَعَتْ عَلىٰ اَرْضِ مِصْرَ
and by Your Signs, which appeared in the land of Egypt
بِمَجْدِ الْعِزَّةٍ وَ الْغَلَبَةِ
with great might and victory,
بِاٰيَاتِ عَزِيْزَةٌ
with powerful signs,
وَ بِسُلْطَانِ الْقُوَّةِ
with the display of full command,
وَ بِعِزَّةِ الْقُدْرَةِ
great power,
وَ بِشَأْنِ الْكَلِمَةِ التَّامَّةِ
the affair of the perfect word,
وَ بِكَلِمَاتِكَ الَّتِى تَفَضَّلْتَ بِهَا عَلىٰ اَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ
and by Your words with which You do a favor to the inhabitants of the skies and the earth
وَ اَهْلِ الدُّنْيَا وَ اَهْلِ الْاٰخِرَةِ
and the people of this world and the Next World,
وَ بِرَحْمَتِكَ الَّتِىْ مَنَنْتَ بِهَا عَلىٰ جَمِيْعِ خَلْقِكَ
and by Your Mercy with which You bestow graces upon all Your creatures,
وَ بِاسْتِطَاعَتِكَ الَّتِىْ اَقَمْتَ بِهَا عَلىٰ الْعَالَمِيْنَ
and by Your Power with which You dominate the worlds,
وَ بِنُوْرِكَ الَّذِىْ قَدْ خَرَّ مِنْ فَزَعِهِ طُوْرُ سَيْنَاۤءَ
and by Your Light through fear of which Mount Sinai collapsed,
وَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَ جَلَالِكَ وَ كِبْرِيَاۤئِكَ وَ عِزَّتِكَ
and by Your Knowledge, Majesty, Greatness, Honor,
وَ جَبَرُوْتِكَ الَّتِىْ لَمْ تَسْتَقِلَّهَا الْاَرْضُ
and Might, which the earth could not bear,
وَ انْخَفَضَتْ لَهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ
the heavens bent down,
وَ انْزَجَرَ لَهَا الْعُمْقُ الْاَكْبَرُ
the great depths restrained themselves,
وَ رَكَدَتْ لَهَا الْبِحَارُ وَ الْاَنْهارُ
oceans and rivers became stable,
وَ خَضَعَتْ لَهَا الْجِبَالُ
mountains yielded,
وَ سَكَنَتْ لَهَا الْاَرْضُ بِمَنَاكِبِهَا
the earth became firm on its shoulders,
وَ اسْتَسْلَمَتْ لَهَا الْخَلَاۤئِقُ كُلُّهَا
all creatures surrendered,
وَ خَفَقَتْ لَهَا الرِّيَاحُ فِى جَرَيَانِهَا
the winds breathed in their flow,
وَ خَمَدَتْ لَهَا النِّيْرَانُ فِىْ اَوْطَانِهَا
and the flaming fires were extinguished in their places,
وَ بِسُلْطَانِكَ الَّذِىْ عُرِفَتْ لَكَ بِهِ الْغَلَبَةُ دَهْرَ الدُّهُوْرِ
and by Your authority through which You are acknowledged to have All-powerfulness all the times
وَ حُمِدْتَ بِهِ فِى السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرَضِيْنَ
and for which You are praised in the heavens and the earth,
وَ بِكَلِمَتِكَ كَلِمَةِ الصِّدْقِ الَّتِىْ سَبَقَتْ لِاَبِيْنَا اٰدَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ بِالرَّحْمَةِ
and by Your word, the Word of Truth, which had became mercy for our father Adam and his offspring,
وَ اَسْئَلُكَ بِكَلِمَتِكَ الَّتِىْ غَلَبَتْ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ
and by Your word that overcame everything,
وَ بِنُوْرِ وَجْهِكَ الَّذِىْ تَجَلَّيْتَ بِهِ لِلْجَبَلِ
and by the light of Your Face, which when You showed to the Mount,
فَجَعَلْتَهُ دَكًّا وَ خَرَّ مُوْسىٰ صَعِقًا
You caused it to crush into pieces, whereby Moses fainted and fell down,
وَ بِمَجْدِكَ الَّذِىْ ظَهَرَ عَلىٰ طُوْرِ سَيْناۤءِ
and by Your Glory, which appeared on Mount Sinai,
فَكَلَّمْتَ بِهِ عَبْدَكَ وَ رَسُوْلَكَ مُوْسَى بْنَ عِمْرَانَ
and through which You addressed Your servant and Messenger, Moses, the son of 'Imran,
وَ بِطَلْعَتِكَ فِىْ سَاعِيْرَ
and by Your appearance in Sa'ir,
وَ ظُهُوْرِكَ فِىْ جَبَلِ فَارَانَ بِرَبَوَاتِ الْمُقَدَّسِيْنَ
and by Your appearance on Mount Faran on the heights of the holy ones,
وَ جُنُوْدِ الْمَلَاۤئِكَةِ الصَّافِّيْنَ
When the troops of angels were in rows,
وَ خُشُوْعِ الْمَلَاۤئِكَةِ الْمُسَبِّحِيْنَ
and with the submissiveness of the angels glorifying You,
وَ بِبَرَكَاتِكَ الَّتِىْ بَارَكْتَ فِيْهَا عَلىٰ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ خَلِيْلِكَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
and by Your blessings by which You honored Abraham, Your sincere friend ('a)
فِىْ اُمَّةِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهِ
among the people of Muhammad, Your blessings be upon him and his household,
وَ بَارَكْتَ لِاِسْحَاقَ صَفِيِّكَ
and You blessed Isaac, Your chosen prophet,
فِىْ اُمَّةِ عِيْسىٰ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلَامُ
among the followers of Jesus, peace be on them both,
وَ بَارَكْتَ لِيَعْقُوْبَ اِسْرَاۤئِيْلِكَ
and You blessed Jacob, Your favored servant,
فِىْ اُمَّةِ مُوْسىٰ عَلَيْهِمَاالسَّلَامُ
by including him among the followers of Moses, peace be on them both,
وَ بَارَكْتَ لِحَبِيْبِكَ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِهِ
and blessed Your intimate beloved, Muhammad, may the blessings of Allah be upon him and his Household,
فِىْ عِتْرَتِهِ وَ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ وَ اُمَّتِهِ
in his offspring, offspring, and people.
اَللّٰهُمَّ وَ كَمَا غِبْنَا عَنْ ذٰلِكَ وَ لَمْ نَشْهَدْهُ وَ اٰمَنَّا بِهِ وَ لَمْ نَرَهُ صِدْقًا وَ عَدْلًا
O Allah! Just as we were absent from that but we believe in it honestly and truly,
اَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
So we beseech You to send Your benedictions upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَ اَنْ تُبَارِكَ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
to bless Muhammad and the household of Muhammad,
وَ تَرَحَّمَ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
and to have mercy on Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
كَاَفْضَلِ مَا صَلَّيْتَ وَ بَارَكْتَ وَ تَرَحَّمْتَ عَلىٰ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَ اٰلِ اِبْرَاهِيْمَ
with the most auspicious benedictions, blessings, and mercy that You sent to Abraham and the posterity of Abraham.
اِنَّكَ حَمِيْدٌ مَجِيْدٌ
Surely, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious,
فَعَّالٌ لِمَا تُرِيْدُ
and Doer of what You will.
وَ اَنْتَ عَلىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيْرٌ۔
You are Powerful over all things.
You may now beseech Almighty Allah to grant you your personal requests. Then, say the following:
اَللّٰـهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هٰذَا الدُّعَآءِ،
O Allah, in the name of this prayer
وَبِحَقِّ هٰذِهِ الْاَسْمَآءِ
and in the name of these Names
الَّتِىْ لَا يَعْلَمُ تَفْسِيْرَها
which none knows their exegesis
وَلَا يَعْلَمُ بَاطِنَهَا غَيْرُكَ
or their implicit meanings save You,
صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
(please) send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَافْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ،
do to me that of which You are worthy,
وَلَا تَفْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنَا اَهْلُهُ،
do not do to me what I deserve,
وَاغْفِرْ لِىْ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِىْ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْهَا وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ،
forgive my sins—past and future,
وَوَسِّعْ عَلَىَّ مِنْ حَلَالِ رِزْقِكَ،
increase Your lawful sustenance for me,
وَاكْفِنِىْ مَؤُنَةَ اِنْسَانِ سَوْءٍ،
and save me from the trouble of wicked men,
وَجَارِ سَوْءٍ،
wicked neighbors,
وَقَرِيْنِ سَوْءٍ،
wicked companions,
وَسُلْطَانِ سَوْءٍ،
and wicked rules
اِنَّكَ عَلٰى مَا تَشَآءُ قَدِيْرٌ
Verily, You have power over all that You will to do
وَبِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ
and You have full knowledge of all things.
آمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.
Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds.
According to some copies of the supplication, the following statement is added before the latter portion:
يَا اَللهُ يَا حَنَّانُ يَا مَنَّانُ
O Allah! O All-tender! O Bestower!
يَا بَدِيْعَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَ الْاَرْضِ
O Fashioner of the heavens and the earth!
يَا ذَا الْجَلَالِ وَ الْاِكْرَامِ
O Lord of Majesty and Honor!
يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ،
O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
اَللّٰـهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هٰذَا الدُّعَآءِ،
(O Allah! I beseech You in the name of this prayer)...
وَبِحَقِّ هٰذِهِ الْاَسْمَآءِ
and in the name of these Names
الَّتِىْ لَا يَعْلَمُ تَفْسِيْرَها
which none knows their exegesis
وَلَا يَعْلَمُ بَاطِنَهَا غَيْرُكَ
or their implicit meanings save You,
صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
(please) send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,
وَافْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ،
do to me that of which You are worthy,
وَلَا تَفْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنَا اَهْلُهُ،
do not do to me what I deserve,
وَاغْفِرْ لِىْ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِىْ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْهَا وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ،
forgive my sins—past and future,
وَوَسِّعْ عَلَىَّ مِنْ حَلَالِ رِزْقِكَ،
increase Your lawful sustenance for me,
وَاكْفِنِىْ مَؤُنَةَ اِنْسَانِ سَوْءٍ،
and save me from the trouble of wicked men,
وَجَارِ سَوْءٍ،
wicked neighbors,
وَقَرِيْنِ سَوْءٍ،
wicked companions,
وَسُلْطَانِ سَوْءٍ،
and wicked rules
اِنَّكَ عَلٰى مَا تَشَآءُ قَدِيْرٌ
Verily, You have power over all that You will to do
وَبِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ
and You have full knowledge of all things.
آمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ.
Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds.
You may now beseech Almighty Allah to grant you your personal requests. Then, say the following:
Shaykh al-Majlisi has quoted Sayyid Ibn Baqi as saying, in al-Misbah, that the following supplicatory prayer is advisably said after Dua al-Simat:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هٰذَا الدُّعَاۤءِ
O Allah! I beseech You in the name of this prayer
وَ بِحَقِّ هٰذِهِ الْاَسْمَاۤءِ
and in the name of these Names
الَّتِىْ لَا يَعْلَمُ تَفْسِيْرَهَا وَ لَا تَأْوِيْلَهَا
which none knows their exegesis or interpretation
وَ لَا بَاطِنَهَا وَ لَا ظَاهِرَهَا غَيْرُكَ
and none knows their implicit or explicit meanings save You,
اَنْ تُصَلِّىَ عَلىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
to send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad
وَ اَنْ تَرْزُقَنِىْ خَيْرَ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْاٰخِرَةِ
and to provide me with the good of this world and the Next World.
You may then mention your need and continue as follows:
وَ افْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنْتَ اَهْلُهُ
Do to me that of which You are worthy
وَ لَا تَفْعَلْ بِىْ مَا اَنَا اَهْلُهُ
but do not do to me what I deserve,
وَ انْتَقِمْ لِىْ مِنْ فُلَانِ بْنِ فُلَانِ (اَعْدَاۤءِ اٰلِ مُحَمَّدٍ)
and exact vengeance from... [so-and-so]
You may here mention the name of your enemy
وَ اغْفِرْ لِىْ مِنْ ذُنُوْبِى مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْهَا وَ مَا تَاَخَّرَ
forgive my sins—past and future,
وَ لِوَالِدَىَّ وَ لِجَمِيْعِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ
forgive my parents and all faithful believers—men and women,
وَ وَسِّعْ عَلَىَّ مِنْ حَلَالِ رِزْقِكَ
increase Your lawful sustenance for me,
وَ اكْفِنِىْ مَؤُنَةَ اِنْسَانِ سَوْءٍ
save me from the troubles of wicked men,
وَ جَارِ سَوْءٍ
wicked neighbors,
وَ سُلْطَانِ سَوْءٍ
wicked rulers,
وَ قَرِيْنِ سَوْءٍ
wicked companions,
وَ يَوْمِ سَوْءٍ
evil days,
وَ سَاعَةِ سَوْءٍ
and evil hours,
وَ انْتَقِمْ لِىْ مِمَّنْ يَكِيْدُنِىْ
and exact vengeance for me on everyone who hatches secret plots against me,
وَ مِمَّنْ يَبْغِىْ عَلَىَّ
]on everyone who oppresses me,
وَ يُرِيْدُبِىْ وَ بِاَهْلِىْ
seeks to do injustice to me, my wife,
وَ اَوْلَادِىْ وَ اِخْوَانِىْ
my children, my brothers,
وَ جِيْرَانِىْ وَ قَرَابَاتِى
my neighbors, and my relatives
مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ ظُلْمًا
among faithful men and women
اِنَّكَ عَلىٰ مَا تَشَاۤءُ قَدِيْرٌ
Verily, You have power to do whatever You will to do
وَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيْمٌ
and You have full knowledge of all things.
اٰمِيْنَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِيْنَ۔
Respond to me, O Lord of the worlds.
You may then say the following:
اَللّٰهُمَّ بِحَقِّ هٰذَا الدُّعَاۤءِ
O Allah! In the name of this prayer, I beseech You
تَفَضَّلْ عَلىٰ فُقَرَاۤءِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِالْغِنىٰ وَ الثَّرْوَةِ
to grant wealth and affluence to indigent faithful men and women,
وَ عَلىٰ مَرْضَى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِالشِّفَاۤءِ وَ الصِّحَةِ
recovery and wellbeing to the sick faithful men and women,
وَ عَلىٰ اَحْيَاۤءِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِاللُّطْفِ وَ الْكَرَامَةِ
bliss and clemency to the living faithful men and women,
وَ عَلىٰ اَمْوَاتِ الْمُؤمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِالْمَغْفِرَةِ وَ الرَّحْمَةِ
remit the sins of, and have mercy on, the deceased faithful men and women,
وَ عَلىٰ مُسَافِرِى الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ بِالرَّدِّ اِلىٰ اَوْطَانِهِمْ سَالِمِيْنَ غَانِمِيْنَ
and arrange the return of all faithful travelers with safety and gain,
بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.
وَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلىٰ سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ خَاتَمِ النَّبِيِّيْنَ وَ عِتْرَتِهِ الطَّاهِرِيْنَ
May Allah send blessings to our master Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, and upon his Household, the purified
وَ سَلَّمَ تَسْلِيْمًا كَثِيْرًا۔
and send peace upon them in abundant measure.
Shaykh Ibn Fahad says that it is recommended to say the following prayer after Dua al-Simat:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّى اَسْئَلُكَ بِحُرْمَةِ هٰذَا الدُّعَاۤءِ
O Allah, I beseech You in the name of the sacredness of this prayer,
وَ بِمَا فَاتَ مِنْهُ مِنَ الْاَسْمَاۤءِ
the Names mentioned therein,
وَ بِمَا يَشْتَمِلُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ التَّفْسِيْرِ وَ التَّدْبِيْرِ
and the explanation and deep meanings of these names
الَّذِىْ لَا يُحِيْطُ بِهِ اِلَّا اَنْتَ ۔۔۔۔
that none comprehends save You...
