THE WHISPERED PRAYER (MUNAJAT) OF AMEERUL MOMENEEN (A)
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّيْ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ
O Allah, I beseech You for security on the day when neither wealth nor sons will avail except him who comes to Allah with a heart free from evil. And I beseech You for security on the day when the wrongdoer gnaws his hands, saying: Ah, would that I had chosen a way together with the Messenger of Allah. And I beseech You for security on the day when the guilty shall be recognized by their marks; so, they shall be seized by the forelocks and the feet. And I beseech You for security on the day when a father shall not make any satisfaction for his son nor shall the child be the maker of any satisfaction for his father. Surely, the promise of Allah is true. And I beseech You for security on the day on which their excuse shall not benefit the unjust and for them is curse and for them is the evil abode. And I beseech You for security on the day when no soul shall control anything for another soul and the command on that day shall be entirely Allah’s. And I beseech You for security on the day when a man shall fly from his brother, his mother, his father, his wife, and his children. Every person of them shall on that day have an affair, which will occupy him. And I beseech You for security on the day when the guilty one will fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by sacrificing his children, his wife, his brother, the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, and all those that are in the earth, wishing then that this might deliver him. By no means! Surely, it is a flaming fire, sagging by the head. O Master! O my Master! You are the master and I am the slave; and who can have mercy upon a slave except the master? O Master! O my Master! You are the Lord and I am the servant; and who can have mercy upon a servant except the lord? O Master! O my Master! You are the Almighty and I am the humble; and who can have mercy upon the humble except the Almighty? O Master! O my Master! You are the Creator and I am the created being; and who can have mercy upon a created being except the Creator? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-great and I am the trivial; and who can have mercy upon the trivial except the All-great? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-powerful and I am the weak; and who can have mercy upon the weak except the All-powerful? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-wealthy and I am the needy; and who can have mercy upon the needy except the All-wealthy? O Master! O my Master! You are the Donor and I am the beggar; and who can have mercy upon a beggar except the Donor? O Master! O my Master! You are the Ever-living and I am the mortal; and who can have mercy upon a mortal except the Ever-living? O Master! O my Master! You are the Everlasting and I am the evanescent; and who can have mercy upon an evanescent being except the Everlasting? O Master! O my Master! You are the Eternal and I am the perishable; and who can have mercy upon a perishable being except the Eternal? O Master! O my Master! You are the Provider of sustenance and I am the sustained; and who can have mercy upon a sustained being except the Provider of sustenance? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-magnanimous and I am the miser; and who can have mercy upon a miser except the All-magnanimous? O Master! O my Master! You are the Healer and I am the subject to diseases; and who can have mercy upon the sick except the Healer? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-big and I am the tiny; and who can have mercy upon a tiny being except the Allbig (Lord)? O Master! O my Master! You are the Guide and I am lost; and who can have mercy upon a lost one except the Guide? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-beneficent and I am the object of Your mercy; and who can have mercy upon the needy for mercy except the All-beneficent? O Master! O my Master! You are the Superintendent and I am the tested; and who can have mercy upon a tested except the Superintendent? O Master! O my Master! You are the Director and I am the perplexed; and who can have mercy upon a perplexed one except the director? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-forgiver and I am the sinful; and who can have mercy upon a sinful except the All-forgiver? O Master! O my Master! You are the Dominant and I am the overcome; and who can have mercy upon an overcome one except the Dominant? O Master! O my Master! You are the Raiser and I am the raised; and who can have mercy upon a raised one except the Raiser? O Master! O my Master! You are the All-superb and I am the subservient; and who can have mercy upon a subservient except the All-superb? O Master! O my Master! (Please do) encompass me with Your mercy and be pleased with me out of Your magnanimity, nobility, and favoring. O Lord of magnanimity, benediction, conferral of bliss, and blessing, in the name of Your mercy, O most Merciful of all those who show mercy!
يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَ لَا بَنُوْنَ
Having written down this whispered prayer (munajat), Sayyid Ibn Tawus followed it with a long supplicatory prayer named du’a’ alaman (Supplication for Security). However, this supplicatory prayer is too lengthy to be mentioned in this book.
اِلَّا مَنْ اَتَى اللّٰهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيْمٍ
It is also recommended to say at this very place the postprayer supplication, which will be mentioned after the prayer at Zayd Ibn Sawhan Mosque.
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَعَضُّ الظَّالِمُ عَلٰى يَدَيْهِ
It is also worth mentioning that in my book of Hadiyyat alZa’ir, I have discussed the controversy about the actual place of Imam ‘Ali’s prayerniche where he was stricken with the sword, since some historians have mentioned that the currently familiar mihrab is the place intended, while others have specified the old, currently abandoned mihrab as the place where Imam ‘Ali (‘a) was stricken with the sword. However, it is precautionary to do these acts at both of these places.
يَقُوْلُ يَا لَيْتَنِيْ اتَّخَذْتُ مَعَ الرَّسُوْلِ سَبِيْلًا
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يُعْرَفُ الْمُجْرِمُوْنَ بِسِيْمَاهُمْ
فَيُؤْخَذُ بِالنَّوَاصِيْ وَ الْاَقْدَامِ
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا يَجْزِيْ وَالِدٌ عَنْ وَلَدِهِ
وَ لَا مَوْلُوْدٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَنْ وَالِدِهِ شَيْئًا
اِنَّ وَعْدَ اللّٰهِ حَقٌّ
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ الظَّالِمِيْنَ مَعْذِرَتُهُمْ
وَ لَهُمُ اللَّعْنَةُ وَ لَهُمْ سُوۤءُ الدَّارِ
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ لَا تَمْلِكُ نَفْسٌ لِنَفْسٍ شَيْئًا
وَ الْاَمْرُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلّٰهِ
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ اَخِيْهِ
وَ اُمِّهِ وَ اَبِيْهِ
وَ صَاحِبَتِهِ وَ بَنِيْهِ،
لِكُلِّ امْرِىۤ‏ءٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيْهِ
وَ اَسْاَلُكَ الْاَمَانَ يَوْمَ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ
لَوْ يَفْتَدِيْ مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِبَنِيْهِ
وَ صَاحِبَتِهِ وَ اَخِيْهِ
وَ فَصِيْلَتِهِ الَّتِيْ تُؤْوِيْهِ
وَ مَنْ فِي الْاَرْضِ جَمِيْعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيْهِ
كَلَّا اِنَّهَا لَظٰى
نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّوٰى
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْمَوْلٰى وَ اَنَا الْعَبْدُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْعَبْدَ اِلَّا الْمَوْلٰى
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْمَالِكُ وَ اَنَا الْمَمْلُوْكُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَمْلُوْكَ اِلَّا الْمَالِكُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْعَزِيْزُ وَ اَنَا الذَّلِيْلُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الذَّلِيْلَ اِلَّا الْعَزِيْزُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْخَالِقُ وَ اَنَا الْمَخْلُوْقُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَخْلُوْقَ اِلَّا الْخَالِقُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْعَظِيْمُ وَ اَنَا الْحَقِيْرُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْحَقِيْرَ اِلَّا الْعَظِيْمُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْقَوِيُّ وَ اَنَا الضَّعِيْفُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الضَّعِيْفَ اِلَّا الْقَوِيُّ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْغَنِيُّ وَ اَنَا الْفَقِيْرُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفَقِيْرَ اِلَّا الْغَنِيُّ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْمُعْطِيْ وَ اَنَا السَّاۤئِلُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ السَّاۤئِلَ اِلَّا الْمُعْطِيْ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْحَيُّ وَ اَنَا الْمَيِّتُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَيِّتَ اِلَّا الْحَيُّ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْبَاقِيْ وَ اَنَا الْفَانِيْ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْفَانِيَ اِلَّا الْبَاقِيْ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الدَّاۤئِمُ وَ اَنَا الزَّاۤئِلُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الزَّاۤئِلَ اِلَّا الدَّاۤئِمُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الرَّازِقُ وَ اَنَا الْمَرْزُوْقُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْزُوْقَ اِلَّا الرَّازِقُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْجَوَادُ وَ اَنَا الْبَخِيْلُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْبَخِيْلَ اِلَّا الْجَوَادُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْمُعَافِيْ وَ اَنَا الْمُبْتَلٰى
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُبْتَلٰى اِلَّا الْمُعَافِيْ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْكَبِيْرُ وَ اَنَا الصَّغِيْرُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الصَّغِيْرَ اِلَّا الْكَبِيْرُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْهَادِيْ وَ اَنَا الضَّآلُّ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الضَّآلَّ اِلَّا الْهَادِيْ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الرَّحْمَنُ وَ اَنَا الْمَرْحُوْمُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْحُوْمَ اِلَّا الرَّحْمٰنُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ السُّلْطَانُ وَ اَنَا الْمُمْتَحَنُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُمْتَحَنَ اِلَّا السُّلْطَانُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الدَّلِيْلُ وَ اَنَا الْمُتَحَيِّرُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُتَحَيِّرَ اِلَّا الدَّلِيْلُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْغَفُوْرُ وَ اَنَا الْمُذْنِبُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمُذْنِبَ اِلَّا الْغَفُوْرُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْغَالِبُ وَ اَنَا الْمَغْلُوْبُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَغْلُوْبَ اِلَّا الْغَالِبُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الرَّبُّ وَ اَنَا الْمَرْبُوْبُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْمَرْبُوْبَ اِلَّا الرَّبُّ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اَنْتَ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ وَ اَنَا الْخَاشِعُ
وَ هَلْ يَرْحَمُ الْخَاشِعَ اِلَّا الْمُتَكَبِّرُ
مَوْلَايَ يَا مَوْلَايَ
اِرْحَمْنِيْ بِرَحْمَتِكَ
وَ ارْضَ عَنِّيْ بِجُوْدِكَ
وَ كَرَمِكَ وَ فَضْلِكَ
يَا ذَا الْجُوْدِ وَ الْاِحْسَانِ
وَ الطَّوْلِ وَ الْاِمْتِنَانِ
بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَاۤ اَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ.
