DUA FOR SAFETY FROM FIRE & AL EVIL THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Thirty-first: Shaykh Ibn Fahad has reported that when Abu’l-Darda’ was once informed that his house was on fire, he answered, “No, it is not on fire.” Another person met him and informed of the same, but Abu’l-Darda’ gave the same answer. The same answer he gave to a third person. Then, it was known that all the houses around Abu’l-Darda’’s house were consumed by fire except his. When he was asked how he knew that his house would not be on fire, Abu’l-Darda’ answered, “This is because I have heard the Messenger of Allah saying that whoever says this supplicatory prayer in the morning, no harm will afflict him that day, and whoever says it in evenings, no harm will attack him that night. Before I left, I had said this supplicatory prayer.”

This supplicatory prayer is as follows:

اَللّٰهُمَّ اَنْتَ رَبِّىْ

O Allah, You are my Lord;

لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْتَ

there is no god save You.

عَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ

In You do I put my trust

وَ اَنْتَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيْمِ

and You are the Lord of the Great Throne.

وَ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَاقُوَّةَ اِلَّابِاللّٰهِ الْعَلِىِّ الْعَظِيْمِ

There is neither might nor power save with Allah the All-high and All-great.

مَا شَاۤءَاللّٰهُ كَانَ

Only what Allah wills shall come to pass,

وَ مَالَمْ يَشَاۤءْلَمْ يَكُنْ

but what Allah does not will shall never come to pass.

اَعْلَمُ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيْرٌ

I know for sure that Allah has power over all things

وَ اَنَّ اللّٰهَ قَدْ اَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْئٍ عِلْمًا

and that Allah has encompassed all things with knowledge.

اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْۤ اَعُوْذُبِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ نَفْسِىْ

O Allah, I pray Your protection against the evil of my self,

وَ مِنْ شَرِّ قَضَاۤءِ السُّوْۤءِ

the evil of injurious decrees,

وَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ ذِىْ شَرٍّ

the evil of all evil things,

وَ مِنْ شَرِّ الْجِنِّ وَ الْاِنْسِ

the evil of jinn and human beings,

وَ مِنْ شَرِّ كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ اَنْتَ اٰخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا

and the evil of every living creature that You hold from the forelock.

اِنَّ رَبِّىْ عَلٰى صِرَاطٍ مُّسْتَقِيْمٍ۔

Verily, my Lord is on a straight path.
