SECOND FORM OF ZIYARAH

Shaykh alKulayni reports Imam ‘Ali alNaqi (alHadi) to have said:

When you are at alHusayn’s tomb, you should say the following words:

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَاۤ اَبَا عَبْدِ اللّٰهِ

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا حُجَّةَ اللّٰهِ فِيۤ اَرْضِهِ

وَ شَاهِدَهُ عَلٰى خَلْقِهِ

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ عَلِيٍّ ۟اِلْمُرْتَضٰى

اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ الزَّهْرَاۤءِ

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ قَدْ اَقَمْتَ الصَّلَاةَ وَ اٰتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ

وَ اَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَ نَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ

وَ جَاهَدْتَ فِيْ سَبِيْلِ اللّٰهِ حَتّٰىۤ اَتَاكَ الْيَقِيْنُ

فَصَلَّى اللّٰهُ عَلَيْكَ حَيًّا وَ مَيِّتًا۔

Peace be upon you, O Abu-'Abdullah. Peace be upon you, O Allah’s Argument in His lands and His witness on His creatures. Peace be upon you, O so of Allah’s Messenger. Peace be upon you, O son of ‘Ali the well-pleased. Peace be upon you, O son of Fatimah the Luminous. I bear witness that you performed the prayers, defrayed the poor-rate, enjoined the right, forbade the wrong, and strove for Allah’s sake until death came upon you. So, Allah may bless you in your lifetime and after your death.

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكَ عَلٰى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكَ

جِئْتُ مُقِرًّا بِالذُّنُوْبِ

لِتَشْفَعَ لِيْ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ

يَا ابْنَ رَسُوْلِ اللّٰهِ۔

You may then stick your right cheek to the tomb and say these words:

اَشْهَدُ اَنَّكُمْ حُجَجُ اللّٰهِ

اُكْتُبْ لِيْ عِنْدَكَ مِيْثَاقًا وَ عَهْدًا

I bear witness that you are verily relying on clear proof from your Lord. I have come confessing of my sins so that you may intercede for me before your Lord. O son of Allah’s Messenger.

اِنِّيۤ اَتَيْتُكَ مُجَدِّدًا الْمِيْثَاقَ

You should then mention the Holy Imams by names respectively and then say the following words:

فَاشْهَدْ لِيْ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ

I bear witness that you are verily Allah’s Arguments (against His creatures). Please, write down for me a covenant and a pledge with you. I have come to you to refresh my covenant; so, testify this to me before your Lord. You are verily the Witness.

اِنَّكَ اَنْتَ الشَّاهِدُ۔
