ETIQUETTES OF ATTENDING MOSQUES

You may then walk to the mosque with tranquility and solemnity. While leaving your house towards the mosque, you may say the following:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الَّذِىْ خَلَقَنِىْ فَهُوَ يَهْدِيْنِ

In the Name of Allah Who created me, then He has shown me the way,

وَالَّذِىْ هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِىْ وَيَسْقِيْنِیْ

Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink

وَاِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِيْنِیْ

when I am sick, then He restores me to health,

وَالَّذِىْ يُمِيْتُنِىْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيْنِیْ

Who will cause me to die, then give me life,

وَالَّذِىْ اَطْمَعُ اَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِىْ خَطِيْئَتِىْ يَوْمَ الدِّيْنِ

and Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment.

رَبِّ هَبْ لِىْ حُكْمًا وَاَلْحِقْنِىْ بِالصَّالِحِيْنَ

My Lord, (please) grant me wisdom, join me with the righteous ones,

وَاجْعَلْ لِىْ لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِىالْاۤخِرِيْنَ

ordain for me a goodly mention among posterity,

وَاجْعَلْنِىْ مِنْ وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيْمِ

make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss,

وَاغْفِرْ لِاَبِىْ۔

and forgive my father.

Before you enter the mosque, you may check the bottom of your shoes, lest there may be an impure thing sticking to them.

You may then enter, by preceding your right foot to the left, and say the following:

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ وَبِاللّٰهِ

In the Name of Allah (I begin), in Allah (I trust),

وَمِنَ اللّٰهِ وَاِلَى اللّٰهِ

from Allah (I derive power), to Allah (I refer all my affairs),

وَخَيْرُ الْاَسْماۤءِ كُلِّهَا لِلّٰهِ

and the most excellent of all names are Allah’s.

تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ

I put my trust in Allah.

وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ اِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ

There is neither might nor power except with Allah.

اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰى مُحَمَّدٍ وَاۤلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah, (please) send blessings upon Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad,

وَافْتَحْ لِىْ اَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ وَتَوْبَتِكَ

open before me the doors to Your mercy and admission of repentance,

وَاَغْلِقْ عَنِّى اَبْوَابَ مَعْصِيَتِكَ

close in my face the doors to the acts of disobedience to You,

وَاجْعَلْنِىْ مِنْ زُوَّارِكَ

make me of Your frequent visitors,

وَعُمَّارِ مَسَاجِدِكَ

constructors of Your mosques,

وَمِمَّنْ يُنَاجِيْكَ فِى اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ

those who talk to You confidentially at nights and on days,

وَمِنَ الَّذِيْنَ هُمْ فِى صَلَوٰتِهِمْ خَاشِعُوْنَ

and those who are submissive in their prayers,

وَادْحَرْ عَنِّىْ الشَّيْطَانَ الرَّجِيْمَ

and fend off from me the accursed Satan

وَجُنُوْدَ اِبْلِيْسَ اَجْمَعِيْنَ۔

and all troops of Iblis.
