SURAH AL-HUMAZAH (THE SLANDERER)

This surah was revealed in Mecca and it has 9 verses. The Holy Prophet (S) said that the reward for reciting this surah can be compared to ten times the number of disbelievers who were present in Mecca.

Reciting surah al-Humazah in compulsory prayers keeps a person safe from poverty. Sustenance comes towards him. His death will not be of a sudden and terrifying nature. This surah is also a cure for pain in the eyes and should be recited before blowing gently into the eyes for relief from pain. Keeping this surah in a taweez around one’s neck acts as a protection from the ‘evil eye’.

<font color="000000"><b>In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(1) Woe to every slanderer, defamer,</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(2) Who amasses wealth and considers it a provision (against mishap);</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(3) He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(4) Nay! he shall most certainly be hurled into the crushing disaster,</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(5) And what will make you realize what the crushing disaster is?</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(6) It is the fire kindled by Allah,</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(7) Which rises above the hearts.</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(8) Surely it shall be closed over upon them,</b></font>

<font color="000000"><b>(9) In extended columns.</b></font>
